Our Story
From living rooms to the heart of Cambridge — God has always led the way.
How We Began
New Life Christian Church was born in 1985 in the living rooms of local families who shared a simple, powerful conviction: that Jesus Christ is Lord, and that His people belong together.
In those early days, the church found temporary homes in the Cambridge Train Depot and the basement of Hubbard Hall — humble spaces that shaped a humble people.
Today, NLCC gathers at 2 South Union Street, a building once used for the manufacturing of goods. We believe it is not about where you meet — only that God is given preeminence.
What We Believe
We are a non-denominational, Bible believing, spirit filled fellowship.
The Bible
We believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God and the final authority for faith and life.
Jesus Christ
We believe in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ — the only path to eternal life.
The Holy Spirit
We depend on the leading of the Holy Spirit in all facets of our fellowship, worship, study, and preaching.
Grace
We cannot enter eternal life on our own merit. Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone.
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God."Ephesians 2:8
Our Pastors
Faithful men who answered the call and gave their lives to this community.
Rev. John J. Wood
1985 – 2015
Founding Pastor · In Honor
Rev. John J. Wood
Called by God out of the corporate life of New York City, Pastor Jack left everything familiar behind. He moved his family from Long Island to Greenwich, NY — not for comfort, but for calling.
Together with Elder Neil Corkery, he began ministering to local people who were hungry for God. In January of 1985, New Life Christian Church was born.
For thirty years, Pastor Jack faithfully served the Lord and this congregation — shepherding, teaching, and pouring himself out for the people of Cambridge. He served until 2015.
Rev. Eric Hartwell
2015 – Present
Senior Pastor
Rev. Eric Hartwell
Pastor Eric's story with New Life began at age 6, when he first walked through these doors with his parents and siblings. This church has been his home his entire life.
In 1999, at the age of 20, he gave his heart and life to Jesus. He went on to graduate from Mount Zion School of Ministry in 2003 — the same year he married his wife, whom he met at Bible school.
He served as a PE teacher and Athletic Director at Grace Christian School from 2003 to 2014, and welcomed his two children, Chloe (2006) and Benny (2008), into their family.
In 2015, Pastor Eric succeeded Founding Pastor Jack — not as a stranger stepping in, but as a son of the house, carrying forward the vision with the same faithfulness that built it.
"When Jesus takes us, He will not be looking at us collectively. He will be looking at us individually to see what measure of Himself there is."— Pastor Eric Hartwell
